What's In the news?

The headline above says "Dad's secret drinking was a sign of the disease that killed him". From this headline,  we created our own idea.

The themes that we use are: Depression, isolation, escapism, youth corruption and alcohol abuse. These themes mostly fit into the criteria of a broken down family for these are most of the problems that can occur if there are various problems occurring.

We have various characters:

The family is composed of Mike, Margaret, David and Chris. They all live in a large house in Chelsea which shows that the business that Mike is running is payin
g off for them.
Mike is the father of two sons, he is 41 and works as the co-owner at a local bar in Tottenham court road. He has a massive drinking problem, which is effecting his life every day and this obsessive drinking is leading to health problems which can kill him in the future.
Mike has two sons: David who is 14 and Chris who is 17. They both attend a private school which they dislike.
Margaret is the wife of Mike who is obsessed with money and is currently depressed as she is thinking of divorcing Mike because of the current troubles that is happening in the family.

The plot goes as following:
Mike lives in a very upper class area in Chelsea. He feels that everything around him is changing to the worse side of things and also his sons do not care about Mike as they are just stuck up in their own world and his wife is constantly nagging towards him as she may want a future divorce. Despite their luxury in their house, Mike feels at home when he is in his pub, his daily job.Mike is the co-owner of the pub along with a man called Anthony. However, Mike feels that Anthony is very arrogant and finds him annoying to work with. Mike also has a drinking problem, causing him to drink large amounts of alcohol each day but helps him fight through his depression. Consequently, he has a heart disease and believes that it has come from his drinking problem and because of this disease, he has constant blackouts that can happen at any time. One day, Anthony, the owner of the pub is found dead and Mike was near the scene at that time, but because of his blackouts he is unable to remember anything that has happened to Anthony. Later on that day, he finds himself owner of the pub but this is a struggle for him as he cannot contain his need for drinks at the pub. This results to his business fluctuating as his alcohol supplies decrease. Therefore, one day he meets a drug dealer at his pub which offers him drugs to put in alcohol. He agress and makes a business out of it but leaving the drug a secret from the public. The pub becomes famous but also attracts his son to become an addict that leaves him to a moral decision to whether shut down the pub or keep the money going.

From this headline, the themes that I would create could involve: Youth corruption, violence and potentially drug abuse for these are themes that are seen in a lot of British Social realisms.

Characters:

The main characters will be a gang of boys who are looking to cause trouble.

Toby -
Skin Colour - Black
Age - 17
Toby is the leader of the gang. He is a college drop-out for he always wanted to perform crime by taking drugs and performing vandalism. He lives with his mum for his dad left him when he was only 3. He lives in a council estate as they are a family who rely on benefits. Toby is also the one that provides the small gang with weapons such as knives and machetes.

DeShawn -
Skin Colour - Black
Age - 17
DeShawn took the same path as Toby, performing all the activities that he done for he knew the power that Toby had in society. DeShawn is a bright boy but decided to drop out of college and turn into the life of crime. He lives with his mum, dad and little brother in a large house in central London. However, his misbehaviour is starting to cause trouble within the family.

Dominique -
Skin Colour - Black
Age - 16
Dominique is the youngeset of the 3. He joins in with them as he wants to be part of a gang for he wants to understand the experience of living a life of mischief. He still attends secondary school and is soon doing his GCSE's but appears to be starting to fall in class as he is more interested in going out with his mates. He lives with his mum and dad in a small flat in South of London.

Monique -
Skin Colour - Black
Age - 16
Monique is the girl who causes the troubles that happens. She is a good-looking, smart girl who regularly attends school but also participates in activities with the 3 boys. She lives in a large house in the City with her mum, dad and smaller sister as they are a wealthy family who work in business departments.

Plot:

Toby and DeShawn are best mates who hang around together in college. Toby sees that college is useless for him and decides to drop out and be a full-time criminal. DeShawn has no option but to join him for he is a required part for Toby's plans even though DeShawn could be moving into brigther places, i.e universities. However, Toby persuades him and he has no choice but to drop out of college as well. Both of these boys travel around with no direct path but with one simple mission - commit crime. Vandalism and drugs are a large part of their routine which they perform day-to-day. Dominique had seen these boys travel around and seeing what they've been up to. Wondering what their next move would be, Dominique decides to follow them and later finds out of their mischevious actions. Curious, Dominique approaches them but immediately gets warned by Toby to stay back. Dominique doesn't fall back causing Toby to get annoyed and draw out a knife. Dominique continuously says that he only wants to join in and after a while, Toby agrees. Having fallen into peer-pressure, Dominique starts failing school in a crucial time which is the GCSE period. These 3 boys constantly hang around with eachother with nothing to bother their minds until troubles between them occur and all because of a girl  - Monique. Monique has always been a close friend  of Dominique but she was never introduced to the rest of the crew. Toby instantly finds her attractive and asks her on a date, causing fury in Dominiques head. Dominique talks to Toby about this date but Toby doesn't give a damn and goes through with it. Toby takes Monique home, but ends up walking her up to her bedroom. Things get spicy and they both have intercourse. When Dominique finds out, he gets furious, grabs a knife and runs towards her house. He bursts into her house, finding them both together in the same bed. Horrified at the sight of this, Dominique picks up his knife and slashes towards Toby. DeShawn suddenly appears behind Dominique carrying an axe and swings at him, severly chopping his arm. Both Toby and Dominique are rushed to A&E where they are treated but both later face prison. Monique and DeShawn are devastated but are forced to live on.

From this headline the main theme that I would use would be domestic violence as this headline clearly degrades women and also violence as if it degrades women, there will be a clear example of this happening.

The characters I would use could be:

Patrick - 42, Unemployed, lives in a council estate. Patrick abuses his wife every day after spending a a morning and afternoon at the local pub. He has no respect for women, especially his wife.

Elizabeth - 40, works as a waitress, lives with Patrick. She is constantly abused by her husband but refuses to tell anyone scared that Patrick will kill her. She does not know what to do and has no way out of this situation.

Plot:
Patrick and Elizabeth both live together in a small council estate in Stockwell. They have no children and Elizabeth is constantly suffering from domestic abuse from Patrick for he is an alcoholici who turns up at home drunk every evening, 24 hours a day. Elizabeth has no where to run or hide as she is afraid of the consequences that are coming her way. One night, Patrick comes home furious that his football team Arsenal lost (again) and is of course drunk. Being fed up of these poor displays, he decides to take his anger out on his wife and so grabs a kitchen knife. Helpless, Elizabeth has no other option but to scream but this is no use. Going to defend her face, Patrick slices two cuts on her hands and leaves her bleeding. Elizabeth begs him to stop but Patrick is not satisfied. Patrick forcefully undresses Elizabeth and forces her into rape. The next day, Elizabeth is fed up and seeks help at the police station. Spotted by one of Patrick's friends, Patrick is warned and waits for Elizabeth at home. Elizabeth arrives home only to find Patrick waiting in the couch with a revolver in his lap. Afraid of what is going to happen, Elizabeth makes a break for the entrance and starts running outside. Being chased by Patrick, she tries to run to the police station but gets shot in the back. Dieing a slow and painful death, Patrick watches her from above with a smirk in his face. Her eyes shut and Patrick walks away, only to be caught a few hours later, judged and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
